  2. Plan CEIBAL Pillars of Plan Ceibal Equality – All Children &Teachers in Public School get a Laptop Learning – New tools for learning , new contents, new forms of education. Teachers teach and learn, Kids teach and learn. Technology –Wireless Internet Connection in Schools, Public Places and many homes. Commitment – Strong leadership of President Vazquez . We will not only reduce the gap of the Digital Divide, but more important we need to eliminate the Knowledge Divide

Plan CEIBAL Main Goals • Insure equal access to information and knowledge. • Increase the learning and education opportunities. • Achieve social inclusion. • Invest in human capital to position Uruguay as a leader in the region. • Reach sustainability after 2009 (0.1% GNP) • Country and people empowernmen

  4. Plan CEIBAL 2008-2009 • Pilot May 2007 • Delivered until today 282.000 laptops, 1.632 servers, connectiity 88% To be delivered rest of 2009, 95.000 laptops, 540 severs, full connectivity • Connectivity 300 mts maximum walk for internet (2010)

  5. Plan CEIBAL Other Participants of Ceibal • Homes of INAU (Institute of Children and Adolescense) • Programs for Adolescents that have dropped out of school. • Promesec. Program for young people that have broken the law

Plan CEIBAL What have we learned after one year • Preparing and training teachers is needed • Children teach the teachers • Parents get involved and want to be trained. • Teachers resistance is overcome once 1:1 starts • School is centre of life in town. • Collaboration in all aspects is natural in IT environment • Voluntary work is needed • New learning paradigm • Teacher motivation empowers project and new • ways to teach flourish

  7. Plan CEIBAL Impact Measurement • New homes with computers will rise by 220.000. (20% of total homes) • Half of these homes belong to the poorest quintil of the population • Children Identity restored . • Growth of Children and Teacher Motivation • Parents participate actively in school environment. • Oportunities for the development in music, video, photography and programming in children that without Ceibal would not exist.

  8. Plan CEIBAL Main Conclusions Results are shown immediately Equal Opportunities for the future. New individual rights.. Courage is needed to do it. Every year we dont do it, thousands of kids are lost. If we dont do it know, when should we do it??
