  1. What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is an art of healing i.e.treating diseases by pricking tiny needles on the body surfaces. In Latin "Acus" means "needle or point", "Puncture" means "to prick".

  2. How Acupuncture works? The life energy flowing through the body which is termed "Qi" can be influenced and balanced by stimulating specific points on the body. These points are located along channels of energy known as meridians that connect all of our major organs.

  3. How Acupuncture reduces pain? Acupuncture points are areas of designated electrical sensitivity. Inserting needles at these points stimulates various sensory receptors that, in turn, stimulates nerves that transmit impulses to the hypothalamic-pituitary system at the base of the brain. The hypothalamus-pituitary glands are responsible for releasing neuro transmitters and endorphins, the body's natural pain killing hormones. Endorphins also play a big role in the functioning of the hormonal system. This is why acupuncture works well for painful disorders.

  4. Speciality of Acupuncture The neuro transmitters and endorphins released as a result of acupuncture not only relax the whole body, they regulate serotonin in the brain which plays a role in human and animal disposition, This is why depression is often treated with acupuncture. Some of the physiological effects observed throughout the body include increased Circulation, decreased inflammation, relief from pain, relief of muscle spasms and increase T-Cell count which stimulates the immune system.

  5. Migraine Migraine is throbbing headache associated with nausea and in some cases a visual aura. Positive family history is found in majority cases, It is also called as ascularhemicrania. The paroxysmal function of contraction and relaxation of cerebral blood vessels.

  6. Headache Headache is one of the most frequently encountered symptoms . It’s cause is complicated and difficult to be differentiated. The brain itself is insensitive but some intra- cranial structures have receptors for pain. All the extra cranial tissues are pain sensitive. • Inflamation – meningealirritaition causes generalised headache. It is aggrevated on straining, coughing or movement. • Muscle spasm  – emotional tension, cervical spondylosis etc., may cause this type of headache.

  7. Cervical spondylosis Cervical spondylosis is a degenerative condition caused by wear & tear of the joints leading to pain and stiffness in the neck. Generally it begins around the age of 25 years. It is more common in people who have to bend the neck during their work eg. Writters, clerks, housewives or whose vertebral column sustains more jerks eg. Driver, atheletes etc., Wrong posture is also a common cause.

  8. Frozen shoulder It is also called as peri arthritis or adhesive capsulitis. Lesions of soft tissues of the loco motor system such as tendons, bursae, joint capsules etc., are common. Generally they are caused by mechanical stress eg. repititive mild trauma or excessive use.

  9. Lumbago (Low back pain) Lumbago is pain in the lower part of the back. It is by far the commonest ailment for which patients come to our treatment centre. It is very common after the age of 35. Women out number men probably because of their house hold work which involves off & on forward bending. Drivers, people who do a lot of journey by road, workers who have to lift heavy objects are also common sufferers. Common causes of lumbago are - Lumbar spondylosis - Spondylolysthesis - Prolapsed inter vertebral disc - Spinal tumour - Trauma - Lumbar canal stenosis - Sprain while lifting heavy objects.

  10. Sciatica Sciatica is the name for a syndrome which is characterised by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body — it is as thick as one of your fingers where it arises in the lower spine. It then travels from your lower back through your hip and buttock and down your leg where it divides into two branches at the knee. Each leg has its own sciatic nerve. Symptoms of sciatica The pain from sciatica is felt along the path of the sciatic nerve and can be felt deep in the buttock, with pain that travels down the back of the leg, sometimes to the foot. The pain can be accompanied by tingling, ‘pins and needles’, or numbness, and sometimes by muscular weakness in the leg.

  11. Osteo Arthritis (Knee) Osteo arthritis is one of the common loco motor problems. It is widely accepted as a degenerative disease. About 75% of people above the age of 65 years show the radiological changes of osteo-arthritis but only about 25% of them suffer from symptoms. Female – male ratio is 2:1.

  12. Heel pain Obese people are more prone to get heel pain or calcanealspurr as the overweight practically crushes the calcaneum between the hard floor from beneath and the body from above. Heel pain is more severe when the patient walks first few steps after getting up from bed, then it is gradually reduced.
