Summative Evaluation Independent Evaluations { individual work } ·Homeworks, quizzes, exams, and reports are the assessment instruments. ·Time-honored grading techniques are used by faculty for these instruments. Teamwork Evaluations { individual contribution } ·Team quizzes and exams can be done, but do so sparingly or not at all. ·Team homeworks and reports are the usually assessment instruments.

  3. Summative Evaluation Project Format for a Course • Divide course into 3-to-4 segments, each 4-weeks long. • Create 4 1-wk, 2 2-wk, or 1 4-wk project(s) in a segment. • End segment with a major exam or a team project report. • Have student’s work quality count 50-100% of final grade.

Summative Evaluation • A Team Project Evaluation • Team's Project Quality = ( performance factor ) x ( project grade ) • { 0 to 110 } { 0.0 to 1.1 } { 0 to 100 } • Performance Factor - Is the team doing a professional job? • meeting guidelines and standards • sub-par or exceptional teamwork • etc. • Project Grade - How correct is the team's project solution?"

Summative Evaluation • A Member’s Work Quality • Work Quality = ( instructor’s rating ) x ( professionalism factor ) x ( project average ) • { 0 to 100 } { 0.8 to 1.2 } { 0.0 to 1.2 } { 0 to 100 } • Instructor’s Rating - Personal Observation of student’s project-related work. • Professionalism Factor - Is the student doing professional work? • written work such as memos and reports • homework solution documentation • peer rating by team members • Project Average - How well did team do on project(s) in a course segment?"

Summative Evaluation • Analysis of Three Example Courses • CHEG 200, a Sophomore Basic Problem-Solving Course • CHEG 315, a Junior Unit Operations Laboratory Course • CHEG 400, a Senior Chemical Process Design Course • What is a Member’s Quality Work and Grade? • CHEG 200 - We will analyze together. • CHEG 315 - Think-Trey-Share Activity (Teams 1-3) • CHEG 400 - Think-Trey-Share Activity (Teams 4-6) • 315 & 400 - Exchange of Knowledge (1-4, 2-5, 3-6)
