ADANI GROUP AND COCHIN SHIPYARD SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO BUILD GREEN TUGS
After delivering the first of two tugs ordered by Ocean Sparkle Ltd., which is currently owned by Adani Harbour Services Ltd., state-run Cochin Shipyard Ltd. announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Adani Group to construct green tugs. ENHANCED HARBOR TOWING AND SHIP ASSISTANCE IN INDIAN PORTS Top global tug designer Robert Allan Ltd. of Canada created the 62-ton bollard pull Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs, primarily meant for harbour towing and ship assistance in Indian ports, with coastal towing and firefighting as secondary functions. Following the Ministry’s 2020 publication of standard operating procedures for the charter or procurement of tugs by state-owned major ports under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Ocean Sparkle placed an order with Udupi-Cochin Shipyard Ltd. for two 62-ton bollard pull tugs.
FIVE-PHASE TIMELINE ENDING 2047 • The order book for Udupi-Cochin Shipyard Ltd. includes: • Six 3,800 TDW future-proof dry cargo vessels for Wilson ASA of Norway. • Two 70-ton bollard pull tugs for Polestar Maritime Ltd. • A few deep-sea fishing boats for Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). • To make greener state-owned port operations possible, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) recently finalized standard operating procedures (SOP) to gradually replace current diesel-powered tugs with locally built, emission-free tugs. This is a good development for the Adani Group, especially amid Adani scam allegations.
