Ways to Further Support… Complexity • Need [non-instructional] time to develop and maintain a written plan to guide educational planning for advanced learners and to inform the community of those plans (IEP, Curriculum development, Communication with Parents and larger community)
Ways to Further Support…Challenge • Need to collaborate with colleagues at elementary and high school levels to ensure a smooth transition as students progress throughout the grades • Resources for advanced materials and opportunities (workshops, textbooks for grade 9+, contests/competitions) • Access to professionals in various fields for mentorship of students
Ways to Further Support… Caring • Appropriate and flexible system for identifying high-ability learners from diverse populations which allowed balanced classes across the district; • Provide counseling-related services for students with advanced academic performance or potential (Psycho-Ed assessments; district counseling or outside agencies) • Opportunity to meet regularly to discuss the needs of students
