MKT-IT-4 Students will examine the lodging component of the hospitality industry and how companies market in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility. a) Discuss the importance of people skills in the hotel and lodging portion of the hospitality industry. b) Discuss the differences between target markets in the hotel/lodging component of the hospitality industry. g) Distinguish between amenities and services provided by limited and full service hotels/motels.

Trends in the lodging industry • Travel is dependent on consumer confidence or how consumers feel about the current economic conditions. • Leisure travel is usually avoided or postponed in times of economic uncertainty. • Business travel, the largest segment in the industry, fluctuates directly to overall economic conditions. • The demand for lodging will not pick up until people are more confident about the state of the economy.

  14. Gaming Operations • Challenges • If people don’t win money, they may steal • Obsessive players (spending too much money) • Profitability • Moved from more of trying to make casino gaming really profitable to hotels & restaurants within casinos the profit centers
