  1. 8th Grade Course Requests! Presented by: Mrs. Webb

  2. 8th Grade Course Registration Beginning Friday January 29th, parents and students will be able to log-in to the online PowerSchool Parent Portal to register for your 8th grade classes. Course requests must be completed by February 19th. When you log-in to the website, you will be able to see the courses offered for 8th graders. You will be selecting ALL your courses (Math, Social Studies, Lit/Lang and Science). You need to choose 30 credits of classes

  3. Academic Classes You will need to register for Science, Social Studies, Literature/Language and Math Math recommendations will be made for you READ 180, ELL classes, Study Skills, etc

  4. Please be thoughtful about your exploratory choices, as there will be no changes made in your 8th grade schedule once it is completed. It is NOT first come-first served…..

  5. If you or your parent has a question about your log-in information for the Parent Portal, please have your parent call the RMS Main Office (630.937.8700.)

  7. Prerequisites • The following classes have prerequisites: Spanish – Recommended that you receive an A or B in 7th grade Spanish and A or B in 7th grade Lit/Lang for T1 & T2 French – Recommended that you receive an AaaaaA or B in 7th grade French and A or B in 7th grade Lit/Lang for T1 & T2

  8. Prerequisites Continued Foods II – Must register for Foods I (8th grade course) to register for Foods II

  9. Year Long Exploratory Classes • Band • Chorus • Orchestra • French • Spanish • PE ** Every other class is only 1 trimester long.

  10. Possible Schedule You may take up to 6 trimester classes.

  11. Possible Schedule 1 foreign Language + 1 music class = 6 trimesters

  12. Possible Schedule 1 music class + 3 trimester classes = 6 trimesters

  13. Possible Schedule 2 music classes = 6 trimesters

  14. Possible Schedule 1 foreign Language + 3 trimester classes= 6 trimesters

  15. How many exploratory classes to request?? There are 2 sections for requests: • 1st section: 8th Grade Exploratory Choose 6 trimesters of your most wanted exploratory classes • 2nd section: Alternate Exploratory Choices You must choose at least three alternate choices. Only click on the other classes you would not mind having. You may end up with 1 1 or more of these classes.

  16. REVIEW YOUR REQUESTS PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR PARENTS ARE AWARE OF THE REQUEST YOU HAVE MADE. GO THROUGH THE WEBSITE WITH ONE OR BOTH OF YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS.

  17. REQUESTS THESE ARE ONLY CLASS REQUESTS. YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED ANY CLASSES. YOU ARE NOT “REGISTERING” AS MUCH AS YOU ARE “REQUESTING.”

  18. Parent Portal 1. Go To RMS Website: http://rms.bps101.net/ 2. Click on Parent Portal 3. Enter your user name & password 4. Click on Class Registration 5. Click on the pencil in the “Exploratory” box 6. Choose your top 6 trimester courses (fewer if you are in music or foreign language). 7. Click “okay” once your are done 8. Click the pencil in the “Alternate Exploratory Choices” box 9. Choose at least three alternate exploratory classes 10.Once you have picked the classes, again click “okay” and you should be done. https://powerschool.bps101.net/public/home.html

New Math Options If you are Math, you will probably be registering for Pre-Algebra If you are in Advanced Math, you will probably be registering for Algebra If you are in Algebra, you will probably be registering for Intermediate Algebra **Please register for what you are recommended for, unless you have spoken with your teacher. **

  23. Alternates Don’t try to get tricky!!! If your alternates are the same as your exploratory choices, you will not get extra priority. You will only lose the option to choose to have some back up choices. MAKE SURE YOUR EXPLORATORY CHOICES AND ALTERNATES ARE DIFFERENT.
