  1. Poker Rankings: Understanding The Basics

  2. Overview Want to excel at poker? Knowing all the basics of the game is a must then. Poker rankings are the sequences on which a game of poker is won or lost on. Knowing your hand strength is also supremely important. Here is a quick look at the poker table hand rankings:-

  3. 1) Royal Flush A royal flush is the best hand in poker. It always consists of A, K, Q, J, 10. The cards are all of the same suit, no matter which. This hand beats all other hands on the table.

  4. 2) Straight Flush Any other hand with 5 consecutive cards of the same suit is called a straight flush. For example, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 of spades or Q, J, 10, 9, 8 of diamonds. In a scenario where two players have a straight flush, the player with the higher card wins the round.

  5. 3) Four of a kind A four of a kind consists of four cards of the same type from all four suits. For example, 6 of hearts, 6 of spades, 6 of diamonds, and 6 of clubs and one other card. This hand is very rare and very strong during poker tournaments.

  6. 4) Full House This hand applies when you have three cards of a type and two of another. For example, Q of spades, Q of diamonds, Q of Hearts, 10 of spades & 10 of clubs. This hand beats a flush.

  7. 5) Flush Five cards from the same suit form a flush. It does not have to matter what their value is unless two people have a flush in which case the higher ranked card wins. A flush beats a straight.

  8. 6) Straight Five cards in the order of their sequence regardless of their suits form a straight. A straight beats the Three of a kind.

  9. 7) Three of a Kind Three of a kind is similar to the four of kind as the name suggests and has three cards with the same sequential order and two other cards. This hand is stronger than a two pair.

  10. 8) Two Pair A pair of cards of the same sequential order from different suits and another similar pair along with one other card form a two pair. This hand beats one pair.

  11. 9) One Pair A hand of cards where you have two cards of the same rankings from two different suits and three random cards (not forming any of the above-mentioned poker rankings).

  12. 10) High Card In a situation where you do not have any of the above combinations forming up, the highest card in terms of face value decides the round. This is a very weak hand and chances of winning through this hand are highly unlikely unless you go for a bluff.
