This research explores antimicrobial properties of a modified polyurethane using a fluorinated side chain, incorporating C-12 alkylammonium for biocidal efficacy. At only 2wt% modifier concentration, the polymer achieves full elimination of E. coli, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa in just 30 minutes post aerosol exposure. Potential applications include catheters and gloves, significantly enhancing infection control. Collaborative efforts include international training for graduate students and interdisciplinary research among experts at Virginia Commonwealth University and beyond.
