  9. 9.3 Cornell Notes pg. 10 (Front and Back) • What were the three Muslim empires in the 1500’s? • Who was Muhammad Ahmad? • Why did Muslim reform movements arise? • The Ottoman, Safayid and MughulEmpire. By the 1700’s these empires were in decline. • Leader of Sudan who said he was the Mahdi, or savior, and fought against the British. • Discontent in Muslim empires and opposition of European expansion.

  24. 9.4 Cornell Notes pg. 13 (Front and Back) • How did British gain power in India? • What was the East India Company? • What caused the Sepoy Rebellion? • Britain exploited diverse people and cultures by encouraging competition and disunity. • British company in India created to make money but also made positive changes. • Sepoywere Indian soldiers employed by the East India Company. Rebelled because they were told to bite cartridges greased with animal fat which was against their religion.
