  2. Part 1System Architecture

  3. Existing Wizard Architecture

  4. New G-CAN Architecture 18core cable with 16way connectors replaced with 6core cable & 7way connector Wizard & switchbox replaced with G-CAN

  5. New G-CAN Applicator • Junction Box will retain same mechanical properties (size, mounting bolts, cable glands) as before but contain a CAN based PCB. • New PCB design including a processor will allow for direct monitoring of the current that the Metering Motor and Fans are drawing. This will improve the alarm criteria. • High current drivers on the PCB that are normally used to drive the fan will also operate PWM to enable use to drive a spinning disc motor. • Software can be loaded in to the instrument via a USB stick, allowing the customer to download latest software and update without a service visit.

  6. Part 2Introduction To The New G-CAN

  7. Power Switch on the end RDS G-CAN Terminal • High Brightness (400mcd) colour, 4.3” widescreen format (480x272) LCD with touchscreen • 4 backlit physical keys for application specific functions • ARM Cortex M3 CPU running at 80Mhz • SD card slot • USB slot • 8x Inputs (analogue or digital) • 2watt loudspeaker • IP65 sealing • W:126mm x H:111mm x D:40mm

  8. 26way D connector for power, CAN, 8x inputs etc USB & SD behind rubber door Loudspeaker RDS G-CAN Terminal

  10. Power Up The above will be shown whilst the G-CAN instrument turns on

  11. Main Operating Screen When ready to operate the G-CAN will default to the MAIN operating screen as shown above

  12. Main Operating Screen Operates Pre-Start Nudge or Set the Application Rate Switches the Metering Unit ON/OFF HOME button always returns to this screen Cycles between Main, Info and Menu pages

  13. Metering Status • Metering Motor switched OFF • Metering Motor switched ON • Motor stopped due to cut-out status • Metering roll animation stopped • Metering Motor switched ON • Motor turning proportional to forward speed • Metering roll animated

  14. Metering Motor Status Below Minimum Metering Speed 20% Metering Speed 60% Metering Speed 100% Metering Speed

  15. Setting Application Rate

  16. Scrolling Between Pages Operator can manually cycle between MAIN, INFO and MENU options using the button shown above. HOME key alwaysreturns to MAIN.

  17. INFO Screen – Working Totals Selects the Totals to view Empty Hopper (Greyed out in normal Operation) Tank Contents & Area Remaining View Grand Totals (Machine History) Press to reset the selected column 3 registers recording area, working time, product totals and date since last reset. All accumulate simultaneously but can be independently reset as required.

  18. MENU Screen This is the screen first encountered in the MENU modes

  19. MENU Screen – ‘Tabs’ Product Setup Diagnostics Applicator Setup Factory Setup Tramline Setup Instrument Setup Forward Speed Setup Alarm Setup

  20. Metering Setup Initiate Calibration Test for Chosen Weight (Alternative to Prime Switch) Rate Adjustment Allows the units and % step size to be changed. TGW and product calibration factor can also be manually set. Speed range is information only based on the motor speed limits

  25. Summary • Consider the following: • With DGPS & software the G-CAN will be ready for ‘Precision Farming’ • New hardware design could do provide spinner control speed control instead of electric fan operation • G-CAN provides sore information for operators • CAN communication enables ease of integration to Artemis system • More monitoring and control i.e. current going to fans along with alarms/shutdown, current to metering motor etc • Improved diagnostics • Wiring solution for multiple applicators on one machine is simplified
