  1. Revelation Outline • Introduction. (ch. 1) 1. The Seven Letters to the Seven Churches (chs. 2-3) 2. The Vision of the Seven Seals (4:1-8:5) 3. The Vision of the Seven Trumpets (8:6-11:19) 4. The Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) 5. The Vision of the Seven Bowls (ch. 16) 6. The Victory over Antichrist (chs. 17-19) 7. The Victory over Satan (20:1-22:5) • Conclusion. (22:5-21)

  2. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • VISION ONE OF SEVEN. • The Woman and Dragon – the plight of God’s people.

  3. The Vision One of Seven (chs. 12-15) • NIV Revelation 12:1 A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.

  4. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The woman represents the people of God. She was to be God’s image reflecting Him to all creation. This is shown in her authority over all creation with a heavenly diadem to reign in God’s stead. • NIV 2 John 1:1 The elder, To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth-- and not I only, but also all who know the truth--

  5. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. 4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born.

  6. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The devil figuratively has led one third of the angels astray. He has appeared in different manifestations over time to destroy the Church. • Satan has lost angelic power. His dominion is earth where he strikes out at God’s people for a time.

  7. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

  8. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.

  9. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 9 The great dragon was hurled down-- that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

  10. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. 11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

  11. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short."

  12. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 13 When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. 14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent's reach.

  13. Eagles’ Wings • In the book of Revelation, the eagle is a reference to the spiritual realm. • She is delivered from the spiritual torment and destruction of the devil.

  14. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Time, two times, and a half. 1260 days Satan’s little season 3 ½ days Gospel is spread in spite of persecution. I carried you on the wings of an eagle and brought you to Myself. Isaiah 40:31.

  15. There is another possibility…The little season is a recurring little season throughout the 1260 days. • Time, two times, and a half. 1260 days Satan’s little season 3 ½ days Gospel is spread in spite of persecution. I carried you on the wings of an eagle and brought you to Myself. Isaiah 40:31. Spiritual ersecution will be brutal for a brief time and the Lord will provide heavenly deliverance – as represented by the wings.

  16. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 15 Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. 16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring-- those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

  17. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Satan’s destructive power is his lies and deception from his mouth. The true Church is saved from this. • Who are the woman’s offspring? Those who cling and heed God’s Word faithfully, the Bible.

  18. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 13:1-10. VISION TWO OF SEVEN. The Beast of the Sea.

  19. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • NIV Revelation 13:1 And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. 2 The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority

  20. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The Dragon (Satan) has two operative agents: Secular and pseudo-ecclesiastical powers. • The “Beast of the Sea” represents the attack on the Church from without – secular powers.

  21. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The sea represents the nations. Out of the nations comes direct opposition (the first beast) to the Church and her purposes. • NIV Revelation 17:15 Then the angel said to me, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. • NIV Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was nolongeranysea.

  22. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. • In Daniel, these animals represented nations of the earth. Here, we see a totality of those governments in control for a time.

  23. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. 4 Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?"

  24. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The fatal wound? The fatal wound is Christ crushing Satan’s headship over mankind (power). • NIV Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

  25. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • …But those who do not repent and are forgiven sin still remain under the headship of Satan.

  26. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Those in sin, actually worship Satan and look to earthly institutions as their god and deliverer. Specifically in this vision, these are secular powers who oppose the church. • Is this true today? • Is this true even for non-conformists?

  27. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 5 The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. 6 He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7 He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.

  28. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Who is the Beast of the Sea? • Secular powers. • Atheistic communism / socialism. • Humanism. • Hollywood. • Canada? Sweden? State churches in Europe? U.S.? IRS status for churches?

  29. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast-- all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world. 9 He who has an ear, let him hear.

  30. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 10 If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.

  31. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Captivity? • When was Judah in captivity? • What was Jeremiah’s message? • What was Daniel’s conduct?

  32. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 13:11-18. • VISION THREE OF SEVEN. • The Beast of the Earth.

  33. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • As the seas represent the nations, the land represents the Church. Direct opposition to the true faith comes from within, from those who want to appear religious. The Beast of the Earth are those who want to be seen as religious but really seek favor with the world instead of favor with God. They scorn all who refuse to openly accept their own teachings.

  34. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 11 Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon. 12 He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13 And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.

  35. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The Lamb with horns. This beast comes with under the guise of authority from Christ.

  36. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Fire from heaven? • Elijah was attested as a prophet from the Lord for fire that came down from heaven. • The Beast of the Land assumes to be God’s true representative on earth with mighty cleansing signs (the means of grace) of God’s mighty deliverance to prove it.

  37. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 14 Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

  38. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The Beast of the Land will actively seek to conform the Church to the philosophy of the secular powers. • Think of this in mainline denominations concerning homosexuality, sexuality, abortion, the inerrancy of Scripture, the exclusive salvation found in Christ…

  39. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 15 He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16 He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17 so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

  40. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • Those who refuse to adopt the false church’s teachings, reflective of the secular world, find that they are opposed.

  41. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 18 This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.

  42. What does 666 mean? • 6 is the number of creatures of the land (created on sixth day). • Tying in the image here, these are followers of the false church. • 6 is also the number of the fallen nature (now in sin). • 3 is the number of perfection. • Those who follow the false teachings of the false church are “perfectly sinful” in God’s sight – 666.

  43. The Beast of the Land

  44. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • VISION FOUR OF SEVEN. • The Lamb is victorious with the elect.

  45. VISION FOUR OF SEVEN • Remember the true and final victory belongs to the Lamb and His saints. The Holy Spirit will enables them to sing unending anthems together.

  46. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • NIV Revelation 14:1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.

  47. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 144,000 is the perfect totality that the saints long for (Revelation 6:10). • 12 x 12 x 10 x 10 x 10 • These are they who openly want to be known as children of the Father (with His name on their foreheads for all to see).

  48. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • The sound of the trumpet is a clear, loud pitch for all to hear (like the harpists all together).

  49. The Vision of the Seven Visions (chs. 12-15) • 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.
