  2. Democracy: A government in which the citizens make all of the decisions. • City-State: A political unit made up of a city and its surrounding lands. • Tyrant: Someone who takes power illegally. • Oligarchy: A government ruled by a few powerful individuals Vocabulary

  3. Philosopher: A person who offers views or theories on profound questions in ethics. • Cavalry: A unit of soldiers who ride horses • Strategy: A plan for fighting a battle or war • Phalanx: A group of warriors who stood close together in a square Vocabulary Part II

  4. The Greeks lived on rocky, mountainous lands surrounded by water. The lived on a peninsula, surrounded by mini islands.There are very few flat areas for farmland.Because of all of the mountains in Greece, some of Greece is separated and created their own way of living, and developed city-states. Geography

  5. The important people in Greece were its philosophers. Some of the philosophers in Greece were: Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato. These philosophers argued with the people and gave their opinions on what was right for their country/city-state. Important People

  6. A lot of things were achieved during the Ancient times in Greece. Including the Phalanx which was really hard to stop in war. Another thing that Greece was when Alexander the Great conquered many countries and spread Greek culture. Contributions of Civilization

  7. During the Ancient times in Greece, Persia was constantly in war with them. Two city-states, Sparta and Athens, were also at war at one time. Sparta ended up winning. • Greece had a hard time being united since there were so many mountains. But they fount their way around that once they made city-states. Conflict
