Careers and Employability Centre Where to look for vacancies • Careers and Employability website www.sussex.ac.uk/careers/jobs/search Links to other vacancy web sites……. • International Job Online, which aims to bring together UK educated International Students (European & Overseas) and international Graduate Employers • International Graduate Jobs where you can find international graduate jobs by sector, type or search by country

Advice on making applications • Think about why you are being asked a question, refer to person specification and the company web site • Work in draft initially and check for spelling and grammar • Be positive and ensure you have answered the questions • Use the STAR formula when answering competency based questions SSituation or scenario TTask or challenge AAction, what did you do? RResult

  6. CV design A CV usually contains the following information: • Personal details such as name and contact details • Education history • Employment/voluntary work • Skills and experiences • Achievements • Interests and hobbies • References

Next steps ….. • Clarify your career plans, consider who to apply to, you could target firms already on the register of Tier 2 sponsors • If you are offered a position and issued with a Certificate of Sponsorshipyou can apply for permission to stay in the UK for up to three years on a Tier 2 (General) visa • If necessary direct employers to the information on the UKBA web site about joining the register of Tier 2 sponsors

Next steps….. • Researchorganisations carefully and think about how to provide evidence of your suitability for a position • Networking– do you have any contacts within an organisation which would enable you to make a personal approach • Develop a back up career plan that does not depend on getting a UK work permit – Include applying for options in your home country.
