  1. Senior English 1/10/11 • Give it an understanding, but no tongue. Shakespeare, Hamlet • What is worse than “raining cats and dogs?” • Papuliferous – pimply. Goals - Understand the how the parts of the “three-part sentence definition” work and why we should use them. Homework – Complete both practices and warm-ups from page 37.

  2. Senior English 1/11/11 • Practice – “Revising Groups in Definitions,” page 38. • How can you name the capitol of all the states in less than a minute? • Podobromhidrosis – smelly feet. Goals - Learn how to fix groups and details in defintions. Homework – Complete both practices and warm-ups from page 38-39.

Senior English 1/12/11 • What is the hardest part of writing three part sentence definitions? • What word if pronounced right is wrong but if pronounced wrong is right? • Circadian – having to do with daily bodily cycles. Goals - Understand the how the parts of the “three-part sentence definition” work and why we should use them. Homework – Complete at least four definitions from “Defining Technical Terms.”

Why? • What happens when two city peanuts go for a walk in the evening? • Pygia – a pain in the rump. Goals - Complete definitions for general audience and begin definitions for specialized audience. Understand the difference. Homework – Complete eight definitions for a specialized audience. Don’ forget to study for vocabulary quiz #18.

  5. Senior English 1/14/11 • Five minutes to study for vocab. quiz #18. • What ten letter word starts with g-a-s? • Steatopygic – having excessively fat buttocks. Goals - Complete vocabulary #18. Share examples of specialized and general audience definitions. Revise definitions to make appropriate for audience. Homework – Complete revisions of definitions for both audiences, type them up for turn in on Tuesday.
