  1. VERIFICATION

  2. Verification • Verification !!!!!!!!

  3. Verification • Verification means checking that the data being entered into the ICT system perfectly matches the source of the data. • For example, If details from an order form were being typed in using a keyboard, then when the user has finished, the data on the form on the form on the screen will be identical to that on the paper form (i.e., the data source).

  4. There are three methods of Verification: • Proof reading • Double entry of data • Sending back Printouts. • Data should be verified so that it is fit for purpose • Proof reading involves one user carefully reading what they have typed in and comparing it with what is on the data source (order forms, application forms, invoices, etc.) for any errors, which can be corrected.

  5. In double entry of data, two people use the same data source to enter the details into the ICT system and only if the two sets of data are identical, will they be accepted for processing. The disadvantage of this is that the cost of data entry is doubled. • Sending back Print outs is another way to check that information is correct by printing the information out and sending it back in hard copy form to the person who supplied it, in the hope that they will be able to spot anything that is wrong. This is the procedure when you book a holiday over the phone. The travel agents will send you a printout of the confirmation of the booking which you should check carefully and then let them know if there are many mistakes
