  1. Welcome To New Land Explore And Learn About America’s Foundation In This Choose Your Own Adventure Story

  2. Directions To move the story along and perform an action, click on the red action button next to your desired selection. Action buttons look like the following. You can click on these but nothing will happen, most likely. You might break your mouse if you keep trying.

  3. Directions You are encouraged to continuously click on the red icons to progress through your adventure. However, clicking elsewhere will move the presentation to an entirely new slide. If this happens by mistake, feel free to use the left arrow key to move back to where you were. There are multiple endings to your adventure, each a new starting point for more research. At the end of your journey, there will be web links for more information on the things you discover. Happy adventuring!

  4. Should We Leave? Ello chum! Say, John Smith, I’ve been hearing a great deal of rubbish about the new land across the Atlantic ocean! The king is building colonies and it sounds like there’s a ton of money to be had if we go! What do you think good sir? Should we adventure unexplored territory and leave Britain? Why yes that sounds monilicious! No, I find your radical ideas quite shallow and pedantic.

  5. Congratulations! You somehow lead a boring life in Britain and never doing anything adventurous ever. Later when the thirteen colonies declare independence, you want to fight for Britain but instead end up getting married and working on a farm for the rest of your life. Try Again?

  6. That Boat Ride Was Scary! Oh my we’ve made it to a new and different land! It seems as if the colonists are already building communities and rules. Why don’t we settle in Jamestown, it looks lovely! Oh my check out this man wearing a funny hat! What should we do with him? Straight up kill him! Learn his ways.

  7. That Didn’t Go So Well Turns out these guys are called Indians, and they’ve been in some sort of argument with the locals. I guess they were here before us! Should we continue to take their land? Yes! This mean’s war! I’d rather go explore.

  8. Corn? This Is Delicious! Gee golly! I don’t speak this Indian man’s language, but the people here seem to have a ton of this corn stuff. This would be great for our new neighbors in Jamestown right? I do feel like we’re using them though. I think we need to make a decision! Just take the corn. Whoa that Indian girl is hot!

  9. You Almost Kill Everyone Through our decisive action to acquire all of the new land and seek wealth, we accidentally eliminated pretty much all of the Indians. My bad. Try Again? Just Keep Rolling.

  10. Thanksgiving! By exploring the land and learning the ways of these native people, we’ve achieved temporary peace! I wonder if people will remember this meal next year? You eat heartily and enjoy you’re remaining period of peace. It’s good to be thankful for everything you will accomplish in this new land! Try Again?

  11. Fall In Love Her name is Pocahontas and she might be 13 years old but we’re in love! I’ve come to understand the ways of these different people, but I think there’s nothing I can do to save their salvation. Maybe my story will be made into a semi-accurate Disney musical! Also what’s Disney? Try Again?

  12. More Than 13 Colonies Even though we may have all but eliminated the native population, we’ve established new cities and towns across the entire continent! I’ve gotta say though, the people who don’t look like us do make good slaves. Don’t look at me like that, we need them to build railroads for faster transportation! Don’t worry, this expansion is our destiny! Actually I’m quite worried.

  13. Manifest Destiny You know Biggens, this destiny of ours, it’s really a common belief in 19th century America that society is destined to expand itself across the entire continent. In many ways we have to spread our influence, because well our story is the only one that truly matters. In fact, we can use it to justify our rash decisions that often end in violence. Perhaps one day our adventure will lead to a gigantic United States Of America! This is the sort of ideology that could one day establish what it means to be American! Click this action button for more information on the topics you’ve encountered!

  14. Your Journey Ends Here For speaking traitorous words you are accidentally hung. Even though you perhaps understood that the destruction of native cultures was very unfair for those not in power, society was pushing very heavily towards a gigantic democratic world power. You stood up for what you believed in, but unfortunately did not alter the course of history.
