  2. Dante • Who was he? • Why is he important? • When and where did he live? • Interesting details of his life.

  3. Who was Dante? • He was a doctor. • He was a poet. • He was an author. • He wrote a play called Dante’s Inferno.

  4. Why he was important • He wrote a play that placed people at the different levels of hell. To learn more about those levels, click HERE. • He is famous for his poem called Commedia. • He is also famous for his book La vita nuova [the new life]. • In addition to everything, he wrote numerous lyrics, eclogues, and epistles.

  5. When and where he lived • He was born in 1265 and he died in1321. • He was active as councilman, elector, and prior of Florence from 1295-1300. • He was banished in 1302 and moved to Italy. • He died at the court of Guido da Polenta in Ravenna, where he is buried.
