  1. Warm Up - Regression Review The table below shows the value of rice produced in Texas from 2001 to 2007. a. Use a calculator to find the best fit model. Let x = the number of years since 2000. b. Using your model, predict the value of rice in Texas in 2015. c. Using your model, predict when the price is likely to reach $2.60 per pound.

  2. Optimization (Notes from Tues) • Farmer Brown has 80 feet of fence with which he plans to enclose a rectangular pen along one side of his barn (the side along the barn needs no fence) • Find the area of the pen with the length 10 feet. • What are the dimensions of the pen with an area 512 ft2 • What are the dimensions of the pen with the maximum possible area? What’s the max area?

  3. Optimization Example 2 • A rectangular box has a height of h feet. The width is 6 feet less than the height, and the length is 9 feet less than the height. • Find the dimensions of the rectangular box with a volume of 30 ft3. • Find the maximum volume of the box.

  4. Factoring Review • Add to notes from Sub yesterday… • 125x4+ 343x = 0

  5. Factoring Review • x4 + 2x3 + 8x = 8x + 16

  6. Factoring Review • x4 + 4x2 – 5 = 0

  7. Writing Polynomials • Zeros at -2, 3 and 5 • Zeros at 4, -6, and 0. • Zeros at 1 and ¾.

  8. Double Roots • A zero with a multiplicity of 1 will cross the x-axis. • A zero with a multiplicity of 2 will “bounce/touch” the x-axis.

  9. Special Roots • An irrational root of a polynomial contains a radical. • For example: • They always travel in pairs with their conjugate. • An imaginary root contains an imaginary number, i. • For example: • They also travel in pairs with their conjugate.

  10. Examples with Special Roots • Write a polynomial for the given roots

  11. 4th Grade Review – No Calc. 1. 1424 ÷ 8 2. 9706 ÷ 4

  12. Long Division • Divide x2 – 5x – 24 by x + 3.

  13. (9b2 + 9b – 10) ÷ (3b – 2)

  14. (6x3 + 2x2 – 11x – 12) ÷ (3x + 4)
