Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival: Traditions and History of Duanwu Jie

The Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Jie, is a vibrant celebration with roots in ancient China. Held on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, it honors the poet Qu Yuan, a respected figure of the Zhou Empire who, heartbroken by the defeat of his state, tragically drowned himself in the Miluo River. To protect his body from fish, local fishermen threw zongzi—glutinous rice dumplings—into the river. Traditional customs also include making aromatic pouches and racing dragon boats. Join us in exploring the rich heritage of this festival!
