This postmortem report reviews the various coordination failures encountered during the WC/NAT 2010 event regarding maps, results, and dossards. Key issues included poor communication, delayed deliveries of preprinted maps, and last-minute requirements that were not met. Observations highlighted a lack of clarity in roles and deliverables, leading to significant confusion during the race day. Specific problems noted were the chaotic distribution of materials, inadequate signage, and organizational lapses in the results display area, impacting overall event effectiveness.

Maps & Results & Dossards - postmortem WC/NAT 2010
Maps – preparations • Role: Failed to coordinate anything, hardly involved in any communications. Role not working. • e.g. B.Peissard did all printing • WC/Lennart ordered the maps • Interactions course setters ↔ mappers • Cost: still unclear • Still have not received the “final” OCAD maps • But perhaps somebody has them? • Printed map delivery: late • Pretex shortage • (no real impact, but could have foreseen this)
Maps – race day • StCergue: sCOOL maps “hidden”.. • Genève: preprinted maps brought rather late to start (somebody should have worried..) • Genève: “map recovery” mess • (12:30 → 14:04 → 12:30) • No checks whatsoever (tramp collecting maps..) • enforce “strictly” or not? • Hand out “new” maps to runners? • Maps to send out (new task..)
Results – preparations • (utter lack of communication with resultservice) • No “devis”, no real idea of costs • After meeting: “late” requirements for arena (e.g. electricity) – and those bypassed me (“role” again) • Unclear deliverables from either side (i.e. us to provide tables/chairs? no. ut on list)
Results – race day • StCergue: too many helpers (bored) • StCergue: taken down by CORDOBA? Resultservice? (missing signs, undid “string”) • Genève: Results display area “moved” • Genève: Initially no signposts • Several “Open” inscriptions in wrong class (I.e.unclear on paper)
Dossards (Genève) • Missing signposts • started too late to put these out • Method “stack on the floor” was chaotic • Thanks to Christina for cleanup! • (Still no idea how to distribute “properly”..) • DE/HE start lists arrived too late - confusion • Pins and warmup map: could have been better distributed (clear sign, wider boxes)
