  7. Research on Conditions for Learning • Brian Cambourne - 1988 • Children acquire early learning when certain conditions are present in their environments, both at home and at school • He cites eight conditions for learning

  8. Students need to be surrounded with interesting, high-quality books and different kinds of text • Generate lively engagement for learning (games, dance, read-aloud, singing, word games) • How does educational technology fit into this frame?

  9. Model reading and writing • Let students see you writing notes, letters, stories, recipes, lists • Make sure they see you reading for pleasure, for information, for directions, and other purposes • How do we model the use of educational technology?

  10. Set realistic, yet high expectations • Be familiar with developmental stages of emergent literacy • Provide ongoing support in appropriate tasks • What are our expectations related to instructional technology?

  11. Listen to children (learner) Welcome their comments and questions Provide ongoing non-threatening feedback Celebrate their learning on a daily basis How are we responding to students engaged in learning via educational technology?
