Volunteering England • National volunteering development organisation for England • Strategic partner of the Cabinet Office • Work across private, public and third sectors to improve the capacity of volunteering infrastructure • Commitment to promoting and supporting the development of student volunteering within FE and HE

  3. HE student volunteering expertise • Student Volunteering Team with HE and FE expertise • Support student volunteering infrastructure / organisational structures that enable SV • Research / Policy / Advice / Publications / Good practice • National campaigns (Student Volunteering Week / Volunteers’ Week) • Stakeholder engagement (inc BIS, HEFCE, UUK, Association of Colleges, AGCAS, NUS, AGR, practitioners / WiSCV, Volunteer Centres, volunteer-involving organisation, etc)

Volunteering England and NCCPE • Commonality but distinction of functions (MoU, Sept 09; advisory bodies): • Share commitment to the development of SV across HE: • Research / stakeholder engagement / longer-term change • Work together to enhance and utilise each others’ expertise • Differ NCCPE focus on wider forms of engagement; • VE focuses on wider forms of volunteering (all sectors, inc FE); • FE and HE infrastructure (practitioners not students) • Policy / Govt / volunteer management / consultancy / training

Volunteering England and WiSCV Commonality but distinction of functions (PA, Mar 09; SVAG): Share commitment to the development of SV across FE and HE: Support practitioners / stakeholder engagement / training Work together to enhance and utilise each others’ expertise Differ VE is voice of volunteering across public, private and voluntary sectors England not UK (but work with other development agencies) Policy / Govt / research / consultancy / publications Strategy rather than operation 5

Volunteering England and students Infrastructure, strategy and influencing policy-makers to highlight value of student volunteering Don’t Source bespoke opportunities for individuals / offer funding Utilise website: Signpost to HEI or Volunteer Centre Volunteering search engines Information on volunteering in UK and overseas Student Volunteering Network (forum for SV) / Volunteer blogs Publications (Art of Crazy Paving) 6

Volunteering England priorities 2009-10 • To demonstrate the value of volunteering and its contribution to society Student Volunteering Week 2010, membership package, regular information • To strengthen leadership, management and diversity in volunteering Volunteer managers event, Skills for Volunteers work, Investing in Volunteers • To ensure a volunteering-friendly economic, political and social environment Policy responses, England Volunteering Development Councils (WiSCV) • To secure and support an effective and sustainable volunteering infrastructure NCCPE research collaboration, infrastructure mapping • To develop Volunteering England as a sustainable and financially viable, well governed and well managed organisation Board of Trustees and SVAG review
