  1. May/JuneSecond Grade News Math In Math, we will complete our Measurement unit and begin our unit on Money. The children will practice counting and comparing a collection of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters whose total value is $2.00 or less and will learn how to correctly use the cent symbol, dollar symbol and decimal point. Science In Science, we will begin our unit on Life Cycles. The second graders will investigate and understand that plants and animals undergo a series of orderly changes. Each second grade class will also have the opportunity to watch the actual life cycle of a butterfly as we will be receiving caterpillars soon! It will be exciting to watch their transformation! Social Studies In Social Studies, we will be exploring our neighbors, Canada and Mexico. We will learn about their climate, land and plant life. We will also learn how the people of Mexico and Canada adapt to their environment. Important Dates May 1- Muffins with Mom (A-M) 7:15 a.m., Spring Chorus Concert 6:30 pm May 2- Muffins with Mom (N-Z) 7:15 a.m. May 7- Kirby Day, PTA Meeting 9:30 a.m. May 26- NO SCHOOL/Memorial Day May 30- Moveable Monday Schedule June 6- Field Day (Grades 1-5) June 10- PTA Meeting 9:30 a.m. June 13- Last Day of School/End of 4th grading period June 18- Report Cards Mailed 2nd Grade Mexican Fiesta Is coming! Games, Crafts, Music and Food! (look for more information from your child’s teacher)
