  2. What is the FEF Scholarship Program? • The FEF Scholarship Program is sponsored through donations from community organizations, businesses, caring individuals and fundraisers such as the Gary Burns Frisco Fun Run, Annual Chili Challenge, and various other events in the community. • Since May 2000, 937 Frisco ISD graduating seniors have been awarded scholarships through the Foundation, totaling $1,522,780!!!! • FEF Sponsored or Managed Scholarships range from $500 to $8000. Scholarships awarded in 2008 are listed on the application.

  3. What Scholarships are funded through the foundation? • Foundation sponsored scholarships include the Gary Burns MemorialContinuing Scholarships, the FEF Overall Merit Scholarships, the FEF Achievement Scholarships ,The FEF Enrichment Scholarships, PayrollDeduction Scholarships and the FEF Matching Scholarships (4). • Scholarships Managed by the foundation include Sports and School Club Scholarships (64), Memorial or Honor Scholarships(21), Corporate Scholarships (19) and Community OrganizationScholarships (53). • Qualifications for scholarships range from special interests such as sports or the arts to high academic achievement and financial need.

  4. What is the process? • Step One: Applications are “blind paper screened” by the selection committee. • Step Two: Interview process: not all applicants will be asked for an interview. If an applicant does not receive a letter requesting an interview, this does not mean the applicant will not be receiving a scholarship. Not every applicant is interviewed. Interviews will be conducted between the hours of 8am-4pm Saturday, March 28 & April 4. Please make arrangements to be available in the event an interview is requested of you. • Step Three: Students are notified regarding scholarships. Those receiving scholarships are required to attend Scholarship Night Thursday, May 14, 2009. • Step Four: Students receive commitment letter designating the university they will attend and letter of agreement for scholarship criteria. This includes contact information for scholarship disbursement. Contact information and any other changes affecting disbursement of funds is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.

  5. How do I apply? • Applications are available at www.friscoeducationfoundation.org • Complete and Return Application along with three (3) copies of the original application and any attachments (this makes for a total of 4 application packets), to counselors on or before Friday, February6, 2009 by 3:30pm. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! • By Friday, January 23rd, ask two (2) CURRENT teachers to complete the Teacher Recommendation forms attached to the application. These will be returned directly to the counselor’s office by teachers. You and your parent must sign teacher recommendation forms prior to giving to teachers. It is your responsibility to remind your teachers periodically they have a deadline of 3:30pm Friday, February 6th to return completed form to your counselor. LATE RECOMMENDATION FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! • By January 23rd, Request One (1) letter of outside recommendation to be sent directly to the FEF Office by 5:00pm February 6, 2009. It is your responsibility to check back with the person writing your personal recommendation to be sure they meet the return deadline. LATE, FAXES, or EMAILED outside LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! • Counselors will attach transcripts and teacher recommendations to your application.

  6. Application Tips • Read the Cover Letter and the application before you start. There are choices regarding essays and important dates. • Print in ink legibly or type your application. Be sure to use same color ink throughout your application. If something does not apply to you, write in N/A. • Answer all of the questions on the Application. This is your chance to shine. Brag, Brag, Brag! Do not be shy about your accomplishments in and outside of school and be specific. • List all activities from 9th through 12th grade. Include both school sponsored and outside activities. Discuss application with your parents. Some scholarships require information regarding your parents/grandparents, as well as income verification. • Complete application questions and write essay YOURSELF. Make sure you address the essay prompt when writing your essay. Check spelling on both the essay and the application. • Write a rough draft of essay first and ask someone to proof-read and edit it. • It is wise to check and recheck, your original application packet as well as the copied packets to be sure everything is there including required signatures, in order, and neatly put together before it is tuned in. • All of the above, including recommendation forms/letter are taken into consideration when scoring applications. Anything left out will result in loss of points during application scoring process. This is why it is imperative you begin early in filling out the application and gathering the necessary information.
