Timeline Meganeura The meganeura has a wingspan of nearly two and a half feet.It lived in the lush forests of the Carboniferous Period Megatherium The Megatherium was 20 feet long and weighed about 3 to 4 tons. It lived in the Woodlands of South America 5 million-10,000 years ago Elasmosaurus The Elasmosaurus lived in the late cretaceous period. It was 46 feet long. Heterodontosaurus Heterodontosaurus was a small herbivore (plant-eater), only 3 feet (90 centimeters) long. It lived in the early Jurassic period, in South Africa. It lived 205 million years ago. Dipterous The Dipterous was about a foot long and one or two pounds. Its diet are small crustaceans. It lived in the Middle Devonian (385 Million Years ago) Gastornis It lived from the late Paleocene epoch to the middle Eocene epoch, the Gastornis was up to about 6½ feet (2 meters) tall.

  6. Fun Facts • When a scientist was putting together an elasmosaurus skeleton he put the head on the tail. • The size of the head limits the size of what it eats. • It has about 75 vertebrae • Instead of chasing its prey it used its long neck.

  7. Fun Facts • Elasmosaurus ate rounded pebbles to help digest their food and to act as a ballast when they are diving • In Greek its name means Ribbon Lizard • It’s the largest Plesiosaurus
