  2. The Aga Khan University hospital uses financial aid to clients who require financial help and also that meet the eligibility requirements. Here are the stories of those patients who acquired patient welfare program at Aga Khan University Hospital for treatment. Dayem Dayem was a student of Baharia University. Until 2008, he was fighting with cancer. Dayem’s family brought him to Aga Khan University Hospital where he was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukaemia - cancer of the blood and bone marrow in which lymphocytes (a form of white blood cells) become affected. As cancer treatment was too costly so Dayem’s parents got welfare assistance and with the help of this, Dayem got proper financial and medical assistance at Aga Khan Hospital and treated with full care under the supervision of professional doctors. He is now living a normal life. His message for all the cancer patients is: “Do not lose hope and be brave!”

  3. Sameer Ahmed Sameer, a 10 years old boy from Larkana, survived a terrifying ordeal: hydrocephalus or fluid buildup in the brain. He started experiencing crippling headaches, fits, agonizing pain and even difficulty in walking. He was brought to the Aga Khan University Hospital by his family where Dr. Shamim handled the case and also referred this case to the patient welfare office. She, with her team, conducted two successful surgeries of him. Sameer’s health has been improving under the watchful care of AKUH staff.   4. Arzoo Saltanat Arzoo Saltanat is a young lady from Gilgit, north Pakistan. She detected something unusual in her breast but ignored initially. She got a normal medical checkup on her sister’s suggestion. The result revealed that she had breast cancer. The cost of treatment was too high so she was provided financial assistance through the patient welfare program. She was given treatment by Dr. Shaisa.   5. Sidra Bhutto In 2014, Sidra was diagnosed with blood cancer. Her family decided to go to Karachi for her treatment. She was admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital where Dr. Zehra and her team started her treatment. But the problem was, her parents were unable to afford her treatment. The oncology team referred them to Aga Khan Welfare Program for financial assistance. Sidra has been off treatment for over a year and has now returned to her normal life.   6. Sadaf Ahmad Sadaf was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her family took her to Aga Khan University Hospital for a checkup where after tests, she was declared a breast cancer patient. She was aware that the treatment was too costly. Doctors referred her to the Aga Khan Welfare Program from where she got medical assistance. Sadaf underwent treatment for breast cancer for three years. Her faith in God and the support of her family gave her the courage to survive.
