Balticgridproject I phase (2005-2008) • Main objectives: sustainable Grid infrastructure in Baltic States, user attraction • Our achievements • Team of 6 people • Computing cluster: 5 CPUs (later upgrade to 21 CPUs), 1 TB storage • Certified Grid site • Hosting central Grid services for Latvia

  7. BalticgridProject II phase (2008-2010) • Main objectives: continue work started, involve Belarus • Our achievements • Cluster upgrade to 48 CPUs • MATLAB DCS licence for Grid • E-learning course in Grid computing • Users from RTU, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis

After the Project • Still part of the European Grid • Provide access for users to «ex-balticgrid» infrastructure • Share computing recourses • Under Latvian NGI (supervised by NDGF) • Is it worth to stay in Grids? • European Grid Infrastructure • 270,800 Logical CPUs (cores) • 139 PB disk and 134 PB tape • 1,35 million jobs/day • 326 Resource Centres • 42 countries
