3. God’s Advance in Africa • “God is doing some of His mightiest work… in some of the most unlikely places… through some of the most unlikely people.” • “It’s in the desperate countries in Africa that we’re experiencing some of the greatest growth.” - Ross Campbell

4. Rooted in African History • 1960s - first national movements • Many African nations gain independence • New sense of African destiny • Surge in indigenous leadership in the Church • Saturation evangelism movements emerge in Zaire & Nigeria

5. The Second Generation • 1970s & 1980s - National Initiatives begin to emerge across the continent • Ghana Evangelism Committee • Target 2000 Movement in Zimbabwe • FinTask Movement in Nigeria

6. Movements Multiply • 1990s– The AD2000 & Beyond Movement • GCOWE 97 draws 1200 leaders from 46 nations • National Initiatives launched in many nations • For example, Finish the Task Kenya • African National Initiatives adopted as the basic strategy of the Evangelism and Missions Commission of the AEA

7. The Birth of MANI • 2001– The Africa Millennial Consultation in Jerusalem gives birth to MANI • Launched by 360 leaders from 36 nations • “Africa’s Hour Has Come!” • Convictions expressed: • The Church in Africa is to take primary responsibility for the final gospel thrust in Africa • The African Church is uniquely positioned to play a major role in world evangelization in the 21st century. • A collective decision is taken to establish a continuing African movement

8. Mobilizing Prayer for the Unfinished Task • Partnering with Transformation Africa • Promoting the Global Day of Prayer • Networking African prayer movements around the Great Commission

9. What is MANI? MANI is an African movement, a network of networks, focused on catalyzing African National Initiatives and mobilizing the resources of the Body of Christ in Africa for the fulfilment of the Great Commission.

MANI Facilitation • MANI is facilitated by a team consisting of a Continental Coordinator and seven Regional Coordinators. • The Team seeks to facilitate the MANI vision at a continental level and works with • National Coordinators • Regional / National Church & Missions leaders • Network Coordinators • Task Force leaders

Underlying Convictions • That the Lord Jesus Christ has His people in the nationsof Africa and is building His church. • That every country has the ministry gifts, manpower and material resources which must be mobilized for the fulfilment of the Great Commission. • That through the mobilization and focused deployment of existing indigenous resources - in partnership with the African and global church - the vision of 'a church for every people and the gospel for every person' can be realized in a country, region and the world.

13. What is a National Initiative? • An African National Initiative is a bold undertaking by the National Church to respond to the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to "to make disciples of all nations (peoples)."

A National Strategy • It is a nationwide strategy and process designed to mobilize the Body of Christ in such a way that it is • effectively functioning together as a body toward the completion of the unfinished task of evangelization in its own country, and • making a significant contribution to the evangelization of the least evangelized peoples and countries of the world.

15. Strategic Priorities • To see, as a priority and minimum, a pioneer church planting (PCP) movement within every major ethno-linguistic people in a nation. • Where the Church already exists, to see the development of a saturation church planting (SCP) movement- multiplying healthy churches for the transformation of a nation.

16. Strategic Priorities • To seean indigenous missions mobilization initiativewhere one does not already exist. • To identify and facilitate theinvolvement of a significant number of churches and Christians in global missions.

17. Strategic Priorities • To encourage local churches and denominations to emphasize discipleship leading to mobilization. • To strengthen united prayer movements for transformation, evangelization and mission. • To see a broad spectrum of the Body of Christ in a nation networking and partnering together to achieve the above objectives (i.e. a National Initiative).
