  1. Health and Safety! Before you begin making your frames it is very important that you understand the safety issues involved.

  2. What is your opinion? • Can you think of any dangers involved in this lesson? • Discuss your ideas as a class and check if they match the points on the next slides.

  3. Glue Guns! • The glue from these glue guns is very hot. You must be very careful at all times! • Do not touch the plug attached to the mains! • If your glue gun does not work ask an adult for help. Do not attempt to fix it yourself! • Keep the glue away from your skin!

  4. Sawing Wood! • You must be careful when sawing your piece of wood. • Begin sawing lightly to create a groove before sawing properly. • Saw forwards and backwards gradually. • Use the wood holders and the edge of the table to cut your wood. • Keep your fingers away from the saw when cutting your wood. • Stand up when sawing.

  5. Moving around the class! • Take care when moving around the classroom between activities. • Always walk slowly watching out for wires and people sawing. • If there is no room on the glue table, complete the extension task in your place.

  6. Points to Note! • Glue Guns – These are very hot! • Sawing – Keep them away from your hands and use the holders ! • Movement around the class – slowly at all times! • Follow these safety points at all times during the lesson!

  7. Remember... • Be safe at all times. • Enjoy the lesson!

  8. The Next Stages • You are now ready to begin measuring your piece of wood as a class! • You need a 30cm ruler and a pencil! • Be accurate!

  9. Measurements • Measure two 10 cm pieces of wood carefully using your ruler. • Measure two 15 cm pieces of wood carefully using your ruler.

  10. Cutting • Good, now you are ready to begin cutting your piece of wood. • You must take it in turns with your partner! Guide each other through the process! • Begin by gently sawing forwards and backwards with your piece of wood supported by the bench edge!

  11. What Next? • Once you have cut your piece of wood you are ready to begin gluing your frame together! • One group will be chosen at a time to glue in Mrs Lomax’s room. • The rest of you must continue with the prototype design and the instructions task whilst waiting!

  12. Prototype Design • This is very important. It is the design of your buggy once this frame has been completed. • Label your design stating the materials you need for the body of your buggy! • Make sure you use labels! Engine powered By electricity Made from card. Made from cardboard circles

  13. Discussion Point • Have the learning objectives been achieved? • What skills have you developed? • Are there any areas you would improve next time?

  14. Packing Away • This is a very important part of the lesson. • One person collect the saws. • One person collect the bench edges. • One person collect the rulers. • Place your frame in your files with the work completed today. • Tidy your table ready for French!
