Who is Meaza? • Meaza is the youngest daughter, of the four kids, of Aster and Petros. • She is the only daughter born in Asmara after independence, on September 11, 1997. • She is growing with her grandmothers as her mother, Aster Yohannes and father, Petros Solomon, have been detained since she was 3 years old. • She is now 12 years old.

  3. Aster during the struggle for liberation The years she spent fighting for freedom, democracy and the rule of law in Eritrea, were not meant to lead to her spending her motherhood in prison without justice. As a veteran fighter she at least deserves the privilege to be a happy mother. She deserves to be free.

  4. Aster and Petros They dedicated their young age fighting for freedom. After independence they were living a happy family life with their four children.

  5. Aster and Meaza February 15, 1999. Happy moments for Meaza with her mum, showing her how to play with a toy. This is the last year, my sister Aster had the chance to hold her daughter and sons in her arms. As a mother she didn’t get the chance to cuddle them as much as any mother would like.

  6. Happy Family Lorenzo, Meaza and Hanna She was a little girl surrounded by her brothers and sister, and parents who loved her. She was a happy little girl.

  7. Meaza with her brothers and sister Growing without a parent’s care has not been easy for any of the children. This photo was taken in 2007, six years since they have seen their dad and seven since they have seen their mum.

  8. Meaza, Hanna, Zerai and Simon (2007) Both the parents and their children have missed the blessings of family life. The children have had to grow up basically as orphans. Meaza was only two years old when her mother left . Aster never got the chance to see her children growing.

  9. Meaza in July 2009 She is a beautiful and intelligent girl with few memories of her mother and father. She enjoys listening to stories about her parents. Let’s hope one day they will be able to tell her their own stories.

  10. Meaza tries to live a normal young girl’s life but behind the bright smile, she hopes and prays for the reunion of her family.
