Outcomes:By the end of the lesson, students will: All: • Have understood the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and of social networking sites. • Have viewed the film and participated in discussions about all the people involved in the story. Most: • Have understood the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and of social networking sites. • Have viewed the film and participated in discussions about all the people involved in the story, and have applied the lessons of the story to their own situation. Some: Have understood the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and of social networking sites. • Have viewed the film and participated in discussions about all the people involved in the story, and have applied the lessons of the story to their own situation. They will be able to contribute perceptive comments about the situations portrayed.

  4. Activity 1 • Watch the ‘ Chatguide video in V drive /PSHE/Film . V:\PSHE\FILM\chatguide_ks3_video.wmv • What are the advantages of using the Internet? • When surfing the ‘net', using chatrooms or message boards, what should you do to protect your privacy? • What do you think the three sketches of Jade, Jack and Soraya are trying to tell you? • “When you meet someone, you can tell whether they are 15 or not?” Can you when you are chatting to them on the ‘net?

  5. Activity 2 • View http://www.digizen.org/resources/cyberbullying/films/uk/lfit-film.aspx • Discuss bystanders, accessories etc. • View character interviews and discuss. How could the situation have been different? • Do you think all events like this end in the same way? • If the film does not play, use the game on • http://www.digizen.org/resources/digizen-game.aspx

  6. Homework • Create a comic strip of a cyber bullying scenario. Complete for homework.

  7. Plenary • Today we have been looking specifically at using the internet safely and responsibly. How do you think that this fits in with what we have been doing in connection with rights and responsibilities?
