  3. Common Core Development • Initially 48 states and three territories signed on for development • State-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers • Final Standards released June 2, 2010 www.corestandards.org

  4. Common Core Development States that choose to align their standards to the common core standards accept 100% of the core. States may add additional standards – up to 15%. Kansas Common Core State Standards incorporate the additions on www.ksde.org.

Common Core State Standards Design The CCSS are designed to be: • Focused, coherent, clear and rigorous • Anchored in college and career readiness* • Evidence and research based • Internationally benchmarked *Ready for first-year credit-bearing, postsecondary coursework in mathematics and English without the need for remediation.
