Dinaric region costume, Vrlika area, Croatia. The basic garment is chemise called KOŠULJA. It is linen and ornamented with embroidery, especially at the front and on the sleeves. The apron is very heavy, made of homespun wool and woven in geometric design with fringe around three hems.

  1. Dinaric region costume, Vrlika area, Croatia.

  2. The basic garment is chemise called KOŠULJA. It is linen and ornamented with embroidery, especially at the front and on the sleeves.

  3. The apron is very heavy, made of homespun wool and woven in geometric design with fringe around three hems.

  5. Long, heavily ornamented wool coat called SADAK is put on over the chemise.

  7. On the back there is ZVRK, design tipical for this entire region.

  8. Heavy belt decorated with shells and silver buttons.

  9. Footwear comes in different variants, but usually there are ornamented wool oversocks with typical croatian decoration-red and white fields.

  10. The decoration is on the outer side of the oversocks.

  12. A pair of Dalmatian style moccasins called OPANCI.

  13. Red female cap with flat top decorated with silver coins.

  14. A white handkerchief is folded into a triangle and pinned to the top of the cap.

  16. Girls put on some jewellery, depending on the economic position of the family.

  17. This national costume is our national treasure.
