What Is The Market Focus? • Market focus of this venture is English speaking students whose language and cultural needs are insufficiently served by the Japanese education system and want to supplement with blended learning in English, including: • Students with a foreign and Japanese parent • Students whose parents are both foreign • Japanese students who previously lived overseas • Other foreigners (Koreans, Chinese, etc.) who want a thorough English education • Home schooled students • Students who fit these categories but are not currently living in Japan

What Do We Do? • Provide quality English courses to supplement a student`s regular learning, especially to students who are studying in the Japanese national education system • Student studies subjects they are interested using English, not studying English through subjects they like • Offer improved learning opportunities through a blend of face to face and online learning – this gives students the highest chance of academic success and student outcomes (INACOL, 2009) • Courses have three distinct features: • Teacher–student and student-student interactions are central • Data-rich and performance driven accountability and assessment • Careful development of course and instructional design

  5. What Are The Goals? • Improve English language academic abilities • Provide opportunities for unique but authentic English language learning and speaking situations • Provide opportunities for intensive English language exposure • Provide opportunities to build 21st Century learning skills

What Do We Offer? • Students study at their own pace and tailor learning to their own schedule • Students have input in course selection and courses are differentiated to meet their learning needs and interests • Courses include History, Geography, Literature, Math, and Science • Students have various learning opportunities, including individual study time and discussions and projects with the teacher and other students • Student have both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities • Students learn using various modern, online learning using Web 2.0 tools, combined with various face to face opportunities where students apply knowledge gained through e-learning, and vice versa

  7. What Sets Us Apart? • All teachers and content designers are experienced educators, including online learning opportunities • Partnerships with Yokohama International School in Japan to provide PYP, MYP, IB and AP course accreditation • MEXT and local schools to tailor student’s learning time

  8. What Are The E-Learning Highlights? • Students will sign up for courses, works with teacher to tailor learning to student needs • Use Moodle LMS and other Web2.0 tools • Students have freedom to create their own PLE

What Are The Face To Face Opportunities? • Uniqueness of program is face to face component that students can choose to do • Tailored around Japanese school system holidays • Teachers and volunteers - parents welcome • Concepts learned through e-learning are applied and vice versa • One day events around Japan (mostly Tokyo/Yokohama area) • Highlight is summer study in Guam • Partnership University of Guam’s ELI and School of Education, Leo Palace Hotel, and Let’s Dive Guam
