  3. When • “For nearly a decade, women in the eastern Congo have endured unimagable acts of sexual cruelty” • This sexual torture and rape against women has been happening for nearly a decade

  4. Who: MARIABIRANGE, AGE50 • " She was a farmer in Shabunda until rebels broke into the house one night in 2001. Her husband ran out the back door but she froze in fear" "They hit me on the shoulder with the backs of their guns until I fell. Then asked my two sons to open my legs for them. My boys refused. So they killed them both. Then they took my old mother to another hut and burned her alive.“ • Rebels killed a mothers two sons and burned her mother alive because the sons would not hold her legs open while they raped their mother.

  5. Who: • "On April 6, 2003 the Interahamwe-Hutu militia men responsible for the Genocide committed in Rwanda stormed her village. The three men entered the house with a bright flashlight. They asked my mother where is your husband she said he was dead. They asked her for her goats and when she said she was poor and didn't have any they took her girl.“ • Two militia men took a women’s daughter because she had no goats.

  6. Who: Women In the Congo • "Since 1996 these women- teachers, merchants, farmers have been serially gang-raped by armed militias who, after violation there bodies, leave them homeless, destitute and sometimes pregnant with HIV“ • Military Men with weapons come in gangs and rape women.
