Circle of Faith Report • After watching the video presentation: • State 10 facts • Make 5 Conclusions • Give two actions • Choose a why question from your life and write a one paragraph answer. • State 2 facts • Make a Conclusion
Asking Why • How to ask – when to be bold, clever, respectful, demanding. • Agitate. • Not settling for “we have always done it this way”. • Parable of the Persistent Widow, Luke 18:1-8.
Awareness • How do you begin to see what must change. (p.85) • Respect – Retrospect – to see again as you may not have seen before. • Listening to the new person, they see what you do not. • Compassion – Risk and Reward; Joy and Pain. • Compare awareness with world view.
Analysis • Asking Why (not settling for we have always done it this way) • How to ask – when to be bold, clever, respectful, demanding.
Action • Agitate. • Parable of the Persistent Widow Luke 18:1-8.
LukeChapter 18: 1-8 • Then he told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. • And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, 'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.' For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" • The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

Interdependence/Relationship Map • A visual relationship map allows people to identify the paths or threads of thought formed by the ideas in the map and facilitates understanding of the situation and decision-making. • Relationship maps are used to find out who is currently involved with the focus person's life and in what capacity.
Homework • Create a Relationship Map. • It must go three levels beyond the start. • See the attachment for a PowerPoint review from class
Relationship Mapping • Review of Homework on Relationship Maps • Using the action questions, create a relationship map to answer the three questions. Answer to at least 3 tiers per question.
Writing Opportunity • Choose from your life a “why” question. • Write a two paragraph short reflection on how you would use the tools of the asking why lesson to find your answer.
Reflection Luke and Mathew • Prepare a written reflection response from the following scripture passages and the need for action called by them. • Lk 9:23-26 • Mt 21:17-22 • Mt 21:28-31
Luke 9:23-26 • Then he said to all, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Matthew 21:17-22 • And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and there he spent the night. When he was going back to the city in the morning, he was hungry. • Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went over to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. And he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again." And immediately the fig tree withered.
Matthew 21:17-22 • When the disciples saw this, they were amazed and said, "How was it that the fig tree withered immediately?" Jesus said to them in reply, "Amen, I say to you, if you have faith and do not waver, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will be done. • Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive."
Matthew 21:28-31 • [Jesus said] "What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in reply, 'I will not,' but afterwards he changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir,' but did not go. Which of the two did his father's will?"
Matthew 21:28-31 • Which of the two did his father's will?" They answered, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.
Writing Opportunity- • Explain the difference between direct action and social action. (p.98) • Use an example to show you know the differences.
Partner Pairs • Taking action for justice is not easy (p.97) especially because of resistance by people who benefit from unjust social structures. • How can you overcome such resistance? • Discuss who benefits from unjust social structures and why. Present to class.
Solidarity and Love. • What does it mean to act for justice in Solidarity? • How can this be done through love? • Reflection p.99-106. • Find an example.
Essay • When you think about Jesus and his ministry, do you associate him more with direct action or social action? • Why ? • What Bible stories or passages can you recall to support you answer
