Community Ecology

In this interactive learning exercise, students will examine a picture representing a specific ecosystem. By observing the organisms and their interactions, they will collaboratively generate questions to deepen their understanding of how complex relationships maintain stability in ecosystems. Students will evaluate claims and evidence related to the effects of changing conditions on organisms, helping them to grasp the dynamic nature of ecosystems and the potential emergence of new ones.

  1. Community Ecology Honors Biology

  2. Learning Target • I can evaluate the claims, evidence and reasoning that the complex interactions in ecosystems maintain relatively consistent numbers and types of organisms in stable conditions, but changing conditions may result in a new ecosystem.

  3. Focus: Complex Interactions • Write down what you observe about the picture shown here. • Compare your observations with a neighbor. • With your neighbor, brainstorm 3 questions that you have about the picture that you wish to investigate.
