  2. Portraiture • Portraiture is a way of recording people. Their personality, character, the place and time they lived, the environment in which they live or simply showing beauty. • How do you capture that? (Getting your model comfortable enough to laugh, have eye contact, change positions, etc.) Food for thought- when I took a Studio Lighting Portrait class, the instructor told the photographers not to use film while taking the first 50+ frames with our models. Why would the instructor say that???

  3. Formal Portraiture Formal portraits use backdrops, key lights, soft boxes, etc.

  4. Formal Setups How can you problem solve and create a formal setup at home? We can’t all afford the tools, but we can be creative!

  5. Lighting is Essential! -Lighting will make your image ‘pop’ and will be a main theme through this project. -Can you figure out where the light sources are coming from? FYI- In the show America’s Next Top Model, the panel talks about the models’ need to always being aware of the lighting direction. Here, you are not working with professional models so YOU always need to be aware of the lighting…

  6. How do these photos differ from a school yearbook photo? What personalities show through in these images?

  7. How do these formal portraits capture personality? Studio Cabrelli photos

  8. What do viewers want to see in a portrait? What attracts you to these photos? Try to get ‘flecks’ to pop the eyes…

  9. Natural Lighting Is using the natural abundance (or lack of abundance) of light to create a portrait Even in black and white- we can ‘feel’ warm lighting

  10. Always be aware of your Light and Shadows! • These can either make or break your image-
