Theatre Safety – Why? • Safety is important for everyone in theatre. • Theatres can be incredibly dangerous for many different reasons: • Loading in/building a set • Anything overhead • Cutting anything • Electrical shorts • Dangerous chemicals
Hazards • Moral – being careless, but unintentional • Morale – intentional, deceitful, lying • Physical – dangerous objects: ladders, saws, ect. How do you prevent these? How does this relate to your life?
Basic Safety Rules • Wear closed toe shoes • Do not have any dangling/loose clothing or accessories • Use eye protection when using saws or other tools that create splinters and wood chips • Use repertory protection when using chemicals and/or creating large amount of saw dust • Always clean up when you are finished!!!
Assignment • In your notebook, you are going to create a safety guide for the important tools and tasks you will use in the theatre. • You should have a step by step guide for the task or tool. • Use the textbook and any other resources.
Activities • Using a hammer • Using a Chop Saw • Using a Circular Saw • Using a power drill • Using a ladder • Hanging lights or anything over the stage • Lifting and carrying heavy objects
