Applications on Web 2.0 • Social Networks Sites (SNS)- • Refers to the use of a variety of Web sites design to facilitate online activities: chatting, texting, video and file sharing, and participations among individuals and community groups. • Group of people who are interpersonally connected to one another through associations or affiliations such friendships, interests, or beliefs. • Features: • Personal profile: presentation card to the online world • Personal information • Interest • Hobbies • Journals

  4. Applications of Web 2.0 • Weblogs or Blogs- Asynchronous online personal diaries, also known as micro-published web site or personal knowledge publishing Web sites. Varies from simple text only to multimedia usage such as videos, hotlinks, files etc. • Five Characteristics: personal authorship; structured post, reverse chronological order and comments: public no-cost, permanent archive.

Applications of Web 2.0 • Third Party Hosted Blogs- companies host blogs, easy to set up, templates, • Blogger • LiveJournal • Self Hosted Blogging Platforms- User most have Web domain name and Web hosting account. More alternatives for design, storage etc. Best for individuals or groups with technical skills or small business. • WordPress • Microblogging-Combines the post-format of blogging with the immediacy of instant messaging. Post of 140 characters or less to their profiles. Received messages instantly in a variety of multimedia devices. • Twitter

Are to communicate and keep in touch with current friends. • MySpace • Facebook • Niche Market Social Networks-Social sites aimed at specific populations to seeking higher degrees of meaningful exchange, and philanthropic sites. • Gather • Tribe and Tokoni

Applications of Web 2.0 • Professional Social Networks- Designed to provided users with a more professional platform for connecting with colleagues are available. • LinkedIn • Ryze • Video-Based Social Networks- Develop around communities seeking central location to share images, movies, and other video files. Are typically easy to used and include social features. • Flickr • YouTube

  8. Applications of Web 2.0 • Wikis –Collection of interlinked Web pages and documents using server software to allow users to create, share, and edit content in a collaborative workgroup format. Information databases, where users can work collaboratively, authoring new content, editing each other’s content through common web browsers, and linking to internal and external resources and date, all while tracking all the changes. They effectively facilitate online group work and collaborative learning. • Activities should be open and transparent • Content open to editing by any reader who can contribute • Well design Wikis should about duplicated content • Can be personal or organizational based • Third Party Hosted Wikis • Wetpaint • Disability and Rehabilitation Wikis

Applications of Web 2.0 • Podcasts- series of digital media files, such as audio or video embeddable or linkable through any computer or device able to receive media files, including cell phones, personal data assistants, social networking site, blogs, and wikis. • Geotagging- Adds positional information to digital content, consist of geographical information for the purpose of providing location information.
