  2. .PM .FR .WF .YT, .RE .TF Key facts about AFNIC • AFNIC is the ccTLD manager of .fr (France), .re (Réunion Island), .tf, .pm, .wf, .yt. • Private-sector, not for profit organisation (Association loi 1901) founded in 1997 by the French State and INRIA • The Membership is open to all stakeholders • 55 employees, located in St Quentin en Yvelines (near Paris) • Budget c. 10 M€, 2 000 000 domain names managed (April. 2010). Key dates in AFNIC’s History • 1997 : December : creation of AFNIC • 2004 : May : companies are allowed to register the Domain Names they want - no more need to prove their rights to the requested DN • 2006 : June : Individuals are allowed to register DN directly under .fr (instead nom.fr) • 2009 : March : EPP for online synchronous registration process • 2010 • March : 7 years Convention between the French State and Afnic for hosting the “Registration Office for domain names under .fr” • Sept : .fr : DNSSEC signature • Oct : French Constitutional Court declares article L.45 of the French Electronic Communications Act unconstitutional but maintains current rules in place until July 1st 2011 • 2011 • March : The Law of 22 March 2011 has changed certain aspects of. • April : DNSSEC for delegations under .fr opened • … Jul : key changes due to the new legal framework for domain names in France will come into effect on 1 July 2011, AFNIC – AFTLD – Accra, Ghana, april 2011
