Solar on Schools History • 2003: Photovoltaics(PV) on Schools –Funded through FEO grant and utilities35 Sites in Florida • Odyssey Charter, Palm Bay • Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne • 2006: Sunsmart Schools Program –Funded through FEO grant and utilities25 Sites in Florida • Edgewood Jr/Sr High School, Merritt Island • Florida Solar Energy Center, Cocoa

  4. SunSmart SchoolsEmergency Shelter Program • 2010-2013: Funded by American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), through FEO • Apollo Elementary • Endeavour Elementary • Bayside High • Eastern Florida State College

  5. Solar on 117Florida Schools Collaboration with schools, solar contractors, and electric utilities statewide.

K-12 Education & Teacher Professional Development • Workshops for Teachers • Model Solar Car Building, Solar Cookers, Intro to Solar and Hydrogen Fuel Cells • Student Groups (4th grade to College Level) • More than 1200 reached 2013-2014 school year • FPL Workshops for Teachers • 300 participants

EnergyWhiz Olympics • FSEC is working with FDACS (FL Energy Office), FPL, Duke Energy, Gulf Power, Bright House Networks, OUC and several school districts to offer regional EnergyWhizOlympics events • Several schools in Brevard that have participated for many years in EnergyWhiz Olympics events: • Edgewood Jr/Sr High – All events • Lewis Carroll Elementary – Solar Cookoff & JSS • Ocean Breeze Elementary – Solar Cookoff & JSS • McNair Magnet - JSS • Andrew Jackson Middle - JSS • Merritt Island High - Electrathon

  10. FSEC Goals for Brevard County • Energy Literacy for every school administrator, teacher and student • Incorporation of energy concepts into curricula • Participation in EnergyWhiz Olympics by every school
