Event Sign-Up • ALWAYS SAVE CHANGES! • Name • Declaration • Notes • Maximum event entry • Day/Session (ref. meet info) • Selecting Events The coaches will review all entries and will make the final decisions on all entries.
Swim Meet Checklist • Swimsuit • Goggles • Cap • Two (2) towels • Warm clothes • Deck Shoes • Healthy snacks • Water bottle (not just Gatorade!) …and of course, that PRO Swimming team spirit!!!
You, Your Swimmer, and the First Swim Meet • Arrive early • Locate PRO Swimming coaches • Swimmers will participate in mandatory team warm-up • Swimmers will right down their events, heats, and lanes • The meet will begin
You, Your Swimmer, and the First Swim Meet, continued… • Swimmers will check in with the coaches 10 minutes before their race for advice • Swimmers will wait behind block approximately 5 minutes before their race • Some meets will have “Staging”: host team volunteers organize swimmers into their heats and lanes (usually for 10&Under swimmers only) • Announcer will state current heat and also callout 1st, 2nd, and 3rd calls for the subsequent heats
You, Your Swimmer, and the First Swim Meet, continued… • Swimmers will race! • Immediately following race, swimmers will “check out” with coaches who provide feedback • Swimmers will warm down (time and distance set by coaches) • Swimmers are free to hang out, play (outside of warm down pool), and interact with friends, teammates, parents, etc. until their next event.
The Parents’ Job At all swim meets, the parents’ job is to be their swimmers biggest supporter. Regardless of time, rank, disqualification or no, PRO Swimming parents are supportive, encouraging, and at appropriate times consoling. The coaches will provide the feedback and critiques to the swimmers.
Common Meet Mistakes • Arriving late • Forgetting suit, cap, goggles, etc. • Not eating enough • Not eating healthy • Not drinking enough water • Not staying dry and warm • Not checking in/out with coaches • Missing an event
