  3. Reinforce the Theme • What part of city government does this man work for? • How is he trying to help the school? • What are some ways police officers in your community help you stay safe?

  4. Activate Prior Knowledge • What might other government workers share with students?

  5. Reinforce Theme Vocabulary Use the words together in a sentence: * The road department workers checked to make sure that the bridge was safe. * The tax department checked to see if they had enough money for a new school. * The teachers in the language arts department checked to see if students could write well.
