  2. Why Salvation Army Music Making? • PURPOSE • What do you consider to be the purpose of SA music-making? • Do you feel your corps groups are or less successful with these goals?

  3. Why Salvation Army Music Making? • STANDARDS • What do you consider to be the standards for participation in Salvation Army music groups? • CONDUCTOR • How comfortable are you with leading a music group? • What do you think you need to work on as a conductor?

Why Salvation Army Music Making? • SPIRITUALGIFTS • What do you regard as your spiritual gifts? • How would you describe your personality? • Do you think you have a good opportunity at your corps to develop these as God intended? • WORSHIP • When and how do you worship best? Describe the circumstances.

STRENGTHS • What are the absolute pluses of your corps’ music program? • If you don’t have a program yet, what are the possibilities? • What are the ways your corps might capitalize on these strengths in terms of music and the arts? • DREAMS • What are your dreams for your corps? The Salvation Army? Yourself?

Corporate Prayer • Lord, keep us a people of purpose,for we acknowledge today that you have gifted the Salvation Army with a rich heritage of music-making which we give back to you for your glory and with the avowed intent to bring more souls to you. Aid us in keeping this foremost in all that we do.

  7. Corporate Prayer In so doing, Lord we want to honor you by holding to high standardsby being exemplary Salvationists and continue to give our “utmost for the Highest.”

  8. Corporate Prayer Lord, we thank you for the opportunities and challenges of leadership. We pray that you will equip each represented here to be able to minister and lead in their own corps setting, especially those who do not have a lot of experience in front of a group conducting.

  9. Corporate Prayer We are grateful that you have uniquely made each of us and that through your spirit you form your church with giftsto complete the body. Teach and fully equip us to use these gifts for each opportunity in front of us so that we may worshipyou in spirit and in truth as our Sovereign Lord.

  10. Corporate Prayer Finally Lord, we have looked at the strengthsin our respective corps and we ask you to help us to build strength on strength. Lord, thank you for the pictures we have from you for our corps, The Salvation Army and even our own ministry. Take these dreamsand begin to open our eyes to the possibilities in front of us. Thank you for affirming and equipping us for your service. We offer this our prayer in the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.

Why? • What forms of evangelism using music and arts have you been involved with? Was there a response? Do you feel it worked? Why or why not?

  22. Moving from Spectatorsto Participants • Sunday Worship • Purpose: Focus on God and growth of the saints • Goal: Every person being fully a participant • Difficulties: Keeping focus while letting the Holy Spirit have free reign

  23. Moving from Spectatorsto Participants • Street Evangelism • Purpose: Draw attention and present the gospel • Goal: To move from spectator to participant • Difficulties: Keeping folks attention and getting out of our own way so the Spirit can work

Moving from Spectatorsto Participants • Concerts • Purpose: Bring people into a listening experience which reflects something of God • Goal: Moving the audience from spectator to participant in the worship experience • Difficulties: Keeping folks attention, how much of the gospel do we share, leaving room for the Spirit

  26. 1. Good repertoire selection is culturally relevant or consciously takes the audience out of their cultural “box.”

  30. Where are we now (and where have we been) with our current programming? • Which pieces do we know well, but should give up? • What pieces should we continue with? • What new items will enhance our program? • What genre or styles have we avoided?

  31. What is the program missing? • An opener? • A great closing sequence? • A solo item? • A devotional invitation item? • What encore? • What congregational involvement? • Humor – when and what?
