NSF GRFP:National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program • Fellowship Overview • Fellowship term is 5 years (3 tenure years and 2 reserve years) • $32,000 annual stipend • $12,000 cost-of-education allowance to the institution • International research and professional development opportunities • Deadline (may be extended due to shutdown) • November 4 (8 pm)

  3. Hertz:Fannie & John Hertz Foundations • Fellowship Overview (2 options) • Option 1 - Five Year Hertz • $32,000/ 9-month personal stipend* • Full tuition equivalent • Renewable for up to 5 years • Option 2 - Five-Year Coordinated • Hertz Period - Two Years • $37,000/ 9-month personal stipend • Full tuition equivalent • Other Fellowship Period - Up to Three Years • $5,000/ year supplemental stipend* from Hertz • Requires Awardee to accept a 3-year Fellowship from another source • Deadline • November 1 • Reference letters: November 4

  4. NDSEG:National defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship • Fellowship Overview • First year: $30,500 • 2nd Year: $31,000 • 3rd Year: $31,500 • Deadline • December 20 • Note: Fellows do not incur any military or other service obligation

DoD SMART Fellowship • Fellowship Overview • Full tuition coverage • $25,000 - $38,000 stipend • Required paid internship during summer • Commitment to join the DoDcivillian science and technology workforce after graduation • Deadline • December 16 • Eligibility • US Citizens 18 and over, undergraduate or graduate students

HHMI • Fellowship Overview • Application only open to second or third year students • Support provided for years three, four and five • $43,000 • Deadline • MIT internal review deadline: October 24, 2013 • Note: Students are nominated first by their university then are reviewed by the HHMI Committee. MIT can submit up to 10 nominations for the invite-only HHMI application process.

  7. Soros:The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans • Fellowship Overview • Two years of support • Up to $25,000 in maintenance grants • Up to $20,000 in tuition • Deadline • November 8 • Eligibility • Born abroad (with green card of naturalized citizen) • Child of naturalized citizen

  8. NIGMS/MIT BTP • Fellowship Overview • Biotech Training Program • $22,000 portion of stipend covered, portion of tuition as well • Required paid internship for 2-3 months • Deadline • Rolling application process, nominees appointed in January, May, and August • Eligibility • Graduate appointment in Course 5, 7, 10, 18, 20
