So who are you? • All stand up! • Sit down if you don’t work regularly in London (2 days a week) • Sit down if you usual place of work is not London • Sit down if you work in London but don’t live in London • So those standing live and work in London, perhaps what I have to say next matters most to you!!

Background Timely opportunity to: • Take a look at the bigger picture • Gives a unique snapshot of the most important issues that affect Londoners’ quality of life • Reaffirm why SD still matters • Highlight future priorities for action for the LSDC and help to inform the Commissions advice to Mayor • This fourth report identifies 33 key areas or 'indicators’.

  5. London’s challenges – and opportunities • Over 8m people • Nearly 3.4m homes • Affluence and deprivation • £12b energy bill each year – and rising • 30m journeys a day • Nearly 2.7m registered cars • 421,000 businesses • 45m tonnes of CO2 p.a. 5

The headlines • Positive direction overall • London has improved on 17 of the 33 indicators since the 2008-09 report • However there are often ‘hidden issues’ behind the headline story • 11 of the indicators show little or no change • Five of the indicators show a clear deterioration • Performance is worst amongst the economic indicators
