  2. Physically Active Living Philosophy HEALTH comes from regular physical activity and the development of health related fitness.

  3. Fitness is for Health Regular physical activity will improve a child’s level of health- and skill-related fitness.

  4. Health-Related Physical Fitness Components • Cardiovascular fitness – the ability of the heart and respiratory system to supply oxygen to fuel the muscles. • Body composition – the ratio of fat to muscle, bone, and other tissues that make up the body. • Muscular strength – the ability to use muscles to exert force at one time. • Muscular endurance – the ability to use muscles for long periods of time. • Flexibility – the range of movement at a joint.

Skill-Related Physical Fitness Components • Agility – the ability to change the position of your body under control. • Speed – the ability to cover a distance over a short period of time. • Coordination – the integration of hand, eye, and foot movements. • Balance – the ability to keep an upright position. • Power – the ability to do an activity at a rapid pace. • Reaction time – the amount of time it takes your body to get moving in response to a stimulus.
