Keane Sept. 2005 2 Accommodation and Environmental Conditions 5.2.1 - The Laboratory shall have space to perform its workload in a manner that does not compromise:- Quality of work (sufficient segregation between processes) Quality control Safety of personnel (debris, clutter free) Patient care services (outpatients queuing etc).

    3. D. Keane Sept. 2005 3 Accommodation and Environmental Conditions contd 5.2.1 - Management should ensure:- that there is sufficient space for the tasks to be performed. that the lab is maintained in a functional and reliable state for the work performed.

Keane Sept. 2005 4 Accommodation and Environmental Conditions contd 5.2.2 - The design and workflow of the Laboratory should be such that there is clear segregation between:- Laboratory areas Clerical areas Phlebotomy areas Why? - Minimise risk of injury - Minimise risk of occupational illness

    5. D. Keane Sept. 2005 5 Accommodation and Environmental Conditions contd 5.2.3 - The facilities should be designed and meet the requirements of outpatients with disabilities who use Laboratory services (ramps, seating).

Keane Sept. 2005 8 Accommodation and Environmental Conditions contd 5.2.4 - We must be able to control environmental conditions that may impact on the quality of the test result/ product:- Sterility cleanliness (bugs/ dust) Electromagnetic (equipment performance) Radiation Humidity (dry air in cleanrooms why?)
